Stream the Indie Memphis Music Sampler 2011

The Memphis Music Foundation has teamed up with Indie Memphis and the Memphis Shelby County Film Commission to create a Memphis music sampler for music supervisors and creative directors.  Heartache in Memphis is a compilation of 20 songs available to stream live on SoundCloud.

The sampler features music from Furry Lewis, Grace Askew, Glorie, Trashed Romeos, Chris Milam, Jeffrey James and the Haul, Tiger High, Susan Marshall, The Bo-keys and Amy Lavere.

This week on the Ardent Sessions we are so proud to feature Dave Cousar, a Memphis musical luminary. From touring around the globe with Jim Dickinson and Susan Marshall, to recording with the recently deceased Willie Mitchell and Al Green, to playing with Ardent Music’s Star & Micey, Cousar has been as influential as influenced, while managing to create a sound that is uniquely his own. Look for his debut on Archer Records to be released in spring 2010!

Backed by some of the finest musicians south of the Mason-Dixon line, including Al Green sideman Teenie Hodges and Dave Cousar, her third solo album, Little Red, highlights the singers stunning vocal chops and songwriting gift. The album features new and old  music along with fantastic duets with Lucinda Williams and Greg Dulli of Gutter Twins and Afghan Whigs.
