First up: Matt Turner, bassist for Jimmy at the Prom.
1. Ashdown Bass Heads
They rock! My gear handles ALL my gigs! From country to catastrophic noise, make it an “Ashdown Day!” You’ll just feel better! I couldn’t imagine not having my Ashdown gear! I was an Ampeg believer for years but now I find it hard to hit the stage without Ashdown.
2. TMZ
That’s right the tabloid show, with the lawyer host. I can’t turn it off, I want to!!!! But then who will tell me how Snooky’s baby is doing??? Or who Oprah isn’t doing. I know it’s kinda weird, but this show is hilarious and why not enjoy it if it’s there? Wait, everything I see on T.V. is true and real, right?
3. Red Bull Energy Drink
When I tool into a venue for load-in, all I wanna know is where is the Red Bull!??!! When the bartender says “Yeah we have that!!”…. and they then offer the Monster energy drink, I’m forced by my own needs through pop culture to ONLY enjoy the “bull!”
and Sean Williamson, guitarist for Jimmy at the Prom:
1. EMG Pickups
…are the bees knees. There’s the old school, the new school, the purists and the po-mo. Well I may have “halved” my audience but I sure didn’t “half” my signal! They’ve been around forever. I’ve played them since high school. They sound great through any amp, and they’re just loud…and clear. Many of my heroes played passive systems but David Gilmour is a great example of an active convert that didn’t go back. Wanna see & hear some incredibleness of those sporting EMG these days? Check out Elixir on Mute…
2. The Situation
Once upon a time, I was the only “The Situation” this side of the Mississippi. Yup, my nickname…and Twitter url @thesituation has been grossly corrupted by this Mike Sorrentino fellow..what a shame. Although it could make for an interesting battle of wits on a late night talk show of your choice (I think Conan would treat me right!). It’s frustrating to deal with this abrasive human parading around with my nickname. “In the words of Sting, I want MY MTV!”
3. Jazz Clubs
They’re falling in numbers in every city…because of pop culture, and I tend to think its a reflection on the live music scene in general. Some of the greatest music venues are the intimate and smoke-laden dives with tons of history behind them…and Justin Bieber isn’t allowed in any of them! Many “jazz” clubs are doing more than just jazz these days, so get out and support good live music in your town! Here’s a great one in my hometown of Milwaukee, WI.
The Jazz Estate, 2423 N. Murray Ave., Milwaukee, WI, 53211.
Formed in 2010, Jimmy at the Prom is a rock band that just finished recording their first full-length album on their own label Gorp Music. The band takes an angular approach at combining the intricacies of hard progressive rock with pop melodies.
An all star cast of musicians from an eclectic selection of bands makes up Jimmy at the Prom. James D. (Dahmann Jr.), Sean Williamson (Bryan Cherry Band), Matt Turner (The Erotic Adventures of the Static Chicken), & Dave Schoepke (Willy Porter) have assembled a rock project for fans of rock.
