1. Craft Beer (Specifically Ghost River Brewing…More Specifically, Copperhead Red)
As a beer enthusiast, home brewer and, most importantly, a Memphian, it does my heart good to see at least one Ghost River beer in grocery stores across the city. I’ve tried just about every GRB beer and have yet to be disappointed.
I recently took the brewery tour with my brother and was able taste Coppherhead Red. This Irish Red Ale is a put Memphis on the map kind of beer. As an advocate of ever-improving beer culture for Memphis, I think beer like this is a major step forward for the way our city drinks. A silver medal at The Great American Beer Festival ain’t too shabby either.
Run down to the brewery and pick up a growler or two of this beer. Get some friends together and enjoy.
2. Maxwell on Vh1 Storytellers
There is an ongoing feud within my band about who is better, Maxwell or D’angelo. I can’t remember when this whole thing started, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was the first conversation I ever had with Landon Moore. Anyway, Maxwell is better.
I’m obsessed with The Writers Almanac. It’s a 5 minute show by Garrison Keillor that airs daily on NPR. I am not a reader and definitely not a writer, but this show has given me a new appreciation for authors and poets alike. The show always starts with birthdays of famous authors followed by brief facts about their life/work. The show ends with a thought-provoking literary selection read aloud my Mr. Keillor himself.
My work allows me to make my own schedule and there are many days I try to plan my lunch around being in the car for the show.
Jared Rawlinson is a life-long Memphian who played drums with dora and This is Goodbye. He is currently a member of the electronic project (not dubstep), Fast Planet. Their debut album Jes arrives 2.21.12.
