The first record I ever bought with my own cash was the Cant Hardly Wait soundtrack. I think it had a few songs from Third Eye Blind, Run D.M.C., and Parliament.
I’m pretty sure I hadn’t even seen the movie yet. I was probably around eleven, and I think it had just come out and was the cool movie at the time. This was a big step for me coming from listening to the debut Spice Girls album and Savage Garden’s “Truly Madly Deeply “on repeat the previous year.
I probably had this record on rotation for about a year after I bought it. It definitely introduced me to new artists that I would come to listen to the next years. It’s funny to think back and remember how silly it was. This was also around the time our local radio station B-104 would have a full hour showcase at midnight every night called “Midnight Magic.” The hour was filled with the most demanded love songs and cheesiest call-in shout-outs. “Yeah, this is Carlos, and I want to give a shout out to my Baby Girl. Just to let her know that I love her, and I am sorry we argued on the phone earlier. I didn’t mean to kiss your friend Blanca…” Stuff like that.
Devin Garcia is the recently married bass player for Texas based band Dignan. They are currently home enjoying some time off with family through the holidays. They are currently working on their next album hoping to release a full length album towards the latter part if 2012. They are already confirming festival tour dates for the first half of the year.
