Carolina Story, a Nashville band that was birthed in Memphis with some pretty strong ties to Ardent, is playing The Abbey tonight at 7PM! Since we know a lot of Memphis music fans tend to go out a little later than that, we’re thrilled that they took the time to stop by and play us a few songs!
The band consists of a married couple whose voices seemed to have been made for each other. They weave and meld through beautiful melodies about being on the road and being love.
Before Emily Olson married Ben Roberts and formed Carolina Story, she worked at Ardent Records but never made a peep about her musical aspirations to her co-workers. When we finally did hear her sing for the first time we were blown away! They’re now part of The Nashville scene, an area much more well known for it’s country music. But Carolina Story are much more East Nashville scene than country music scene.

Carolina Story consists of husband/wife duo, Ben & Emily Roberts, two singer/songwriters from Arkansas and South Dakota respectively, who met at Visible Music College in Memphis in 2007. They began collaborating their musical styles and naturally fell in love and were married by June 2009. Now, as they continually toured all over the US, visiting 28 states and playing nearly 200 shows, they came to understand that this life is about love & relationship. Most of their songs have come from the people they have met or personal experiences and translate into stories about the human condition that everyone can relate to.
As they continued singing/writing together, a unique sound was formed which is rooted in Folk/Americana/Old Country/Roots Music. Their voices blend to create one voice & their harmonies will leave you wanting more. With captivating vocals, acoustic guitars, harmonicas, a kick drum and tambourines, they bring a full sound for just a duo. All ages fall in love with this couples youthfulness and refreshing outlook on folk music. Their songwriting continues to mesh and create a Folk/Americana sound that is getting attention and accolades of a lot of great musicians. 2010 saw the release of their second album “When The River Met The Sea” and also being chosen to be a part of Music City Unsigned, which promotes Nashville’s best emerging independent artists. 2011 welcomed their third album “Home”, which debuted at #2 on ITUNES singer/songwriter charts. They are also one of the founding artists of The Traveling Troubadours: More Than a Show, tours which seek to serve communities through music and humanitarian efforts. They have played nearly 300 shows in just 2 1/2 years as a band, booking all their shows independently. If this is just the beginning, we can’t wait for the rest of the story to unfold.
